Weddings are, in some ways, so different from a just a couple of years past. I marvel at the changes that pandemic life has imposed upon the unions of so many couples. For some, it has meant elopement, for others this new phenomenon that is micro-weddings has taken hold. Regardless of the structure or size, I have found that weddings remain still one of the most joyous days to be celebrated. Whether it’s with 300 or 3 people, there is so much to be enjoyed and savored when two lives come together in marriage. Meaghan and Kevin are a perfect example of this.
“Our proposal was at home…just the two of of us, just 2 weeks ago!!!”
This was the opening in Meaghan’s first email, full of excitement and anticipation, but also containing a little trepidation about what an elopement might look like for the magical day they had both been hoping for. She proceeded to tell me about how they would both categorize themselves as fairly introverted people, who don’t exactly enjoy the limelight. Given a pandemic, everything added up for a different kind of wedding than the usual norm. Thus, an elopement photographer is what she set out to find, and so began our wedding photography story. For the most part, it was just me, Meaghan & Kevin the entire time.
But the number of people at a wedding celebration is no indicator of its importance. Instead, the couple, the rituals and all the little details, no matter how small, receive a level of attention that perhaps is unattainable in comparison to a more grand-scale type of wedding. For Meaghan and Kevin this day and its planning was, by design, minimal but non-the-less decadent.
From the custom-made ring box to hold their Tiffany rings, to Meaghan’s favorite Louis Vuittons, Kevin’s Hawaiian themed socks expertly matched to Meaghan’s Hibiscus tattoos (symbols of their special place), all the little details added up to make their day an exceptional treat.
They chose the beautiful and modern Westin Riverway in The Woodlands, Texas as the backdrop for a full weekend getaway. In their suite they enjoyed room service and spent the morning of their wedding getting ready together. While Meaghan stayed in the bathroom, Kevin put on his suit by the morning light of his floor-to-ceiling skyline view. And when she emerged, Kevin looked upon her with the unmistakable admiration of a love-drunk groom.
For the ceremony, we ventured over the the Montgomery County Courthouse, Lee G. Alworth Building in Conroe, Texas. There we were met by Kevin’s dear and long-time friend, Judge Hamilton, who performed an emotive and personal service. She shared several loving tid-bits about Kevin’s journey to becoming the man that Meaghan fell in love with and now took as her husband. And we all got teary-eyed as they said their vows.
We left the courthouse shortly after, both Meaghan and Kevin beaming joyfully at each other and walking with an extra pep in their step. For the next couple of hours we made photos back at the hotel just for the two of them. From small, intimate moments to grand environmental portraits, the rest of our time flew by as we enjoyed making photos to remember the day forever.
